Hi,
Weno was okay for us, correct fees and not too much hassle, but a few boats after us got ripped off (e.g. they were told they needed an agent who then overcharged them, or they got horrendous additional holiday fees just because they were anchored off Weno during the Christmas holidays even though they did not check in or out on one of the holidays...).
I think if you're careful to deal with officials yourself and have the harbour master take you around the offices (they do this for free), you're okay in Weno. People who stopped in Ponape had a good time, but it was too far east for the wind we had up from PNG...

We got the online cruising permit ahead and were asked for it in Kapingamarangi and Nukuoro, nowhere else. We stopped on pretty much all little atolls that lie along the way westwards and initially planned to stop in Yap as well, but that didn't work out, so we never cleared in/out there. Skipped Palau (too expensive) and went on to the Philippines.

Hi Birgit
Sounds pretty difficult with that lady in Weno. We are planning to go next year from Solomon and then on to Guam and it looks like Chuuk is the easiest because it’s on the way but maybe we should consider Pohn Pei instead. Did you visit other atolls before and after? I’ve heard that’s what you do, they don’t keep a close eye. Which ones can you recommend? There’s very little info about Micronesia. Where did you find cruising tips and did you use Open CPN or just google maps and Navionics? Sorry for all the questions.
