After a long period without much fishing luck we’re regularly catching fish. Maybe it’s because the waters around Santa Isabel aren’t fished empty yet, or maybe it’s because of our new lure (we always use dark lures as they don’t attract birds!). Soon after Christian rigged that dark-grey, blue silvery squid the line went tight and we caught a barracuda. Over the next few weeks another two barracudas, two mahi-mahi and two king fish fell for the new lure!
All the success took its toll, with each hearty bite the rubber squid lost a few legs and the last king fish ripped it half apart… Of course we don’t just dump such a winner, but lovingly repaired it: we stitched the mantle with tenara thread and added an inner “skirt” of shiny squid legs made of a silvery cat-food bag… Now Frankie (that’s short for Frankenstein’s monster) will be out again tomorrow–we’ll see if we find a curious fish eager to investigate our very unusual looking squid
